How to Remove Deck Mold
- 1). Rent or buy an electric power steamer that can heat water to at least 250 degrees Fahrenheit, which will kill mold on contact.
- 2). Fill the steamer with water and preheat the unit to the desired temperature by adjusting the temperature knob on the control panel, typically on the top or side of the steamer tank.
- 3). Use the spray wand to blast the deck with steam, concentrating on areas covered with mold. Steaming the entire deck will kill any mold spores you cannot see and is a good preventive measure.
- 4). Mix 1 gallon of bleach with 1/2 gallon of laundry detergent in a 5-gallon bucket and fill the bucket with water, stirring the solution.
- 5). Scrub the deck with bristle brushes and the cleaning solution to remove the dead mold.
- 6). Rinse the deck with a garden hose after scrubbing and allow it to air dry on a hot, sunny day.
