How to Unclog the Pan on a Refrigerator
- 1). Unplug the refrigerator from the electrical outlet. If the outlet is difficult to reach, cut the power to the socket the refrigerator is plugged into at the main circuit breaker.
- 2). Open the refrigerator. Remove the crisper drawers or other drawers at the bottom of the refrigerator. Pull out the refrigerator shelf near the bottom.
- 3). Discard any food scraps that may have fallen on the refrigerator drain pan. Wipe up any liquids in the bottom of the pan with a towel or rag. Locate the refrigerator drain hole, which is positioned in the lowest part of the refrigerator bottom.
- 4). Push flexible tubing into the drain hole. Continue feeding it through the drain opening until you can feel the clog. Move the tubing back and forth several times against the clog until you feel it come loose.
- 5). Add half a capful of bleach to a pint-sized container of warm water. Suck up some of the water mixture with a turkey baster. Insert the baster into the drain opening and squeeze the bulb. Continue squeezing water in the drain until you have used all of the liquid.
- 6). Remove the grill from the bottom of the refrigerator and set aside. This may require a hex wrench or screwdriver. Lift up the drip pan located behind the grill, gently. Empty this into a nearby sink. Clean the pan thoroughly, then replace. Replace the grill.
- 7). Replace the refrigerator shelves. Turn on the power to the refrigerator.
