How to Use an RG6 Crimping Tool
- 1). Cut the end of the cable off square with a sharp cable cutter.
- 2). Use a combination stripper/crimping tool to prepare the cable. Insert the co-ax into the stripper hole in the handle, flush with the side of the combination tool. Insert your finger into the ring and rotate the combination tool clockwise around the cable; you will hear and feel a “crunching” sound. Keep rotating up to 10 turns until the crunching stops. Remove the tool.
- 3). Hook a pair of wire side cutters into the cut line and pull off the stripped material. There will be a short piece of copper wire protruding from the end, followed by a length of exposed copper braid. Fold the braid back over the cable. The center portion under the braid will consist of white insulation covered with foil. Strip the foil away until there is a single layer left.
- 4). Remove the black sealing ring from the end of the SnapNSeal (SNS) connector. Slide it onto the cable over the insulation, flange end first. Insert the cable into the SNS connector carefully so that the bare copper wire goes through the hole in the end of the connector. Feed the co-ax all the way in until the white insulation butts against the end. You may have to fiddle a bit to get it past the inner ring.
- 5). Press the black sealing ring back into the connector until the flange fits flush against the end face. Open the crimping tool and place the assembly end on between its jaws. Squeeze the crimping handle all the way until you hear and feel a “click” as the connector locks into position. Remove the crimping tool.
- 6). Trim off any strands of copper braid protruding from the end of the connector with a pair of wire side cutters.
