How to Remove Old Aluminum Framed Windows From a House
- 1). Take the screens out of the aluminum window frames. If screws hold the screens in place, remove the screws with a standard screwdriver. However, many screens have built-in pins that hold them in place. Remove these screens by pulling the pins inward toward the center of the screen and pulling the screen free of the window frame.
- 2). Remove any screws from around the perimeter of the aluminum frame that you can see. If you cannot see any screws around the perimeter, the flange that contains the screws is hidden inside the siding of your house on all sides of the window.
- 3). Remove the window trim on both sides of the window to gain access to the screws that hold the windows in place. Pry the window trim away from the side of the house with a pry bar and pull any nails out of the window trim with the claw of a hammer or pliers. If the edge of the siding around the window covers the screws as well, remove the surrounding siding, starting at the bottom panel of the siding. Pry it up gently until it comes loose and work your way up next to the window.
- 4). Knock gently on the window at each corner to tap it loose from the surrounding wall. Once you get one side of the window free at one end, tilt the frame diagonally to pull the rest of it free from the window.
