How to Clean Gutters with Leaf Guards
- 1). Put on gloves. Remove your leaf guards. One of the simplest and most effective types of leaf guards are pieces of flexible plastic that come in sections. These guards have small holes to allow water in, but keep leaves and other debris out. To remove these leaf guards, squeeze the sides back toward the middle and simply lift them out of the gutter.
- 2). Remove any debris at the bottom of the downspout with your hands to make sure water has a clean flow out of your drainage system. Scoop out any large pieces of debris in your gutter that you can reach with your hands.
- 3). Place your garden hose on its most powerful setting. Hose out the gutter so the water flows toward and into the downspout. This will allow the debris to flow out.
- 4). Check to see if any parts of your gutters have become loose from the pressure of the water. If they have, tighten up the screws on any loose parts with a screwdriver.
- 5). Rinse off both sides of your leaf guards to remove any small pieces of debris that may have become attached to their surface. Use a hose to do this.
- 6). Reinstall your leaf guards by gently squeezing them, placing them back inside the gutter and allowing their sides to expand (or spring out) so they are flush against the sides of the gutter.
