More and more people suffer from panic disorder, alarmingly raising the number of those who are receiving treatment for it.
A panic attack can be dangerous if it is not correspondingly treated.
You should be familiar with what to do in case you suffer from such an attack or what to do if you witness an attack.
If you're having the attack: The panic attack is caused by a biochemical imbalance in the brain (low level of serotonin).
At the same time, this imbalance is influenced by the daily stress or by a depression.
To begin with, you should learn how to identify such an attack.
Here are some of the main symptoms: - palpitations; increased heart rate and thoracic discomfort - abundant sweating - shivers - sensation of suffocation - nausea - dizziness and numbness - fear of death Ideally, after the first three symptoms you realize you'll experience a panic attack and you should immediately ask someone for help or call the ambulance.
A panic attack may be even more dangerous because the fear of death can make you act unfavorably for yourself, worsening the attack.
This attack manifests similarly to a heart attack or cerebral attack.
If someone else experiences the attack: If you witness someone having a panic attack, arm yourself with patience.
If it looks that emergency assistance is required, call the ambulance.
If not, tell the person that everything will be ok, that he is not in danger and he must stay calm.
Ask him to cough very often to free the pressure from the heart.
In case of the person behaves aggressively, immobilize his hands (only if he attacks, to avoid adding more pressure on the body).
