    • 1). Turn off the notebook and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Remove the battery.

    • 2). Wear an anti-static strap on your wrist to prevent electrostatic discharge from damaging the notebook internal components.

    • 3). Locate the RAM modules panel cover on the back of the notebook case. Usually the cover will have a "memory" sticker on it.

    • 4). Slightly press down the memory cover and slip it out from its place to reveal the RAM modules. Some Pavilions memory covers are secured by screws. Remove the screws and than remove the RAM. All HP Pavilions have two slots in the memory compartment.

    • 5). Depress the locking clamps inward on both sides holding the old Ram module in place. The clamps will open a bit to let you pull the module out from its slot.

    • 6). Insert the new RAM module into the empty slot. Check the position of the notches on the sides of the RAM module. The module fits only one way, so do not force insert into the slot. The clamps will return to their locking position if the RAM is installed properly.

    • 7). Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for the other RAM module installation. Replace the memory panel cover on the back of the notebook before installing the battery and plugging it in.

    • 8). Reboot your computer. Click "Start" and select "Control Panel." Choose "Performance and Maintenance" and select "System."

    • 9). Click on the "General" tab on top left of the "System" window. Check the list for the amount of RAM currently installed in your HP Pavilion. The number should match the RAM amount you just upgraded.
