How to Reduce Snipe in a Ridgid Planer

1). Raise the cutter head all the way up so you can see the feed bed of the Ridgid planer. Lay a level or a straightedge across the feed bed so it spans the infeed table -- the main table that is directly underneath the cutter head and the outfeed table.
2). Sight down the straightedge. It should be consistently in contact with all three tables and their surfaces should be in a straight line. If either the infeed or outfeed table is sagging, this is probably the cause of your snipe.
3). Adjust the infeed and outfeed tables until they are perfectly flat and in line with the main table underneath the cutter head. This is usually done by adjusting one or two bolts that are located underneath the infeed and outfeed tables.
4). Reduce the risk of snipe on long boards by supporting their ends as you feed them into and pull them out of the planer. Exert a slight upward pressure to counteract their tendency to sag, and you will eliminate the snipe on the leading and tailing edges.
