- 1). Turn on the digital multimeter by pressing the "Power" button.
- 2). Change the dial on the multimeter to the microfarad setting by turning the large central dial. On the dial is a dot. Place the dot next to the microfarad symbol of a Greek letter "mu," followed by an "f." The Greek letter "mu" resembles the letter "u."
- 3). Connect the positive (red) probe of the multimeter to the negative (black) wire of the run capacitor.
- 4). Connect the negative (black) probe of the multimeter to the positive (red) wire of the run capacitor. The number that appears on the multimeter screen is the capacitance of the run capacitor in microfarads.
