    Catapult

    • 1). Tape the ends of three Popsicle sticks together to form a triangle. Make three more triangles the same way. Tape the sides of the the triangles together into a pyramid shape.

    • 2). Overlap two Popsicle sticks by an inch and tape them together to make the arm of the catapult.

    • 3). Cut a circle of paper and cut a slit in it from the edge to the center. Make a cone by overlapping the edges of this slit as if you were making a party hat. Mash the point down to make a cup shape and glue it to the end of the arm. This cup will hold your projectile.

    • 4). Wrap a rubber band around one of the sides of the pyramid near the top. Loop one end of the band through the other so that the rubber band is cinched around the side and there is a loop sticking out.

    • 5). Stick the end of the catapult arm opposite the cup through the loop of the rubber band and push into the pyramid until it touches one of the bottom corners. The cup end will be sticking out one side of the pyramid and the plain end will be inside the pyramid against one corner. The rubber band will be around the arm.

    • 6). Tape the free end of the arm to the bottom corner of the pyramid, making a hinge with tape so that the arm will move up and down.

    • 7). Wad up a small piece of paper and place it in the cup. Pull the cup down, stretching the rubber band taut. Release the cup, and watch your projectile launch across the room, powered by the energy released as the stretched rubber band contracts.

    Rubber Band Motor

    • 1). Run a rubber band through the hole in a spool. Attach a paper clip to one end of the band and tape the paper clip to the end of the spool.

    • 2). Run the other end of the rubber band through a metal washer. Stick a cotton swab through the loop of rubber band that sticks out from the washer.

    • 3). Rotate the swab to wind the rubber band tightly. Hold the swab in place and set the spool on the floor. Let go and the spool will roll across the floor, powered by the energy released from the unwinding rubber band.
