How to Remove a Curve From Your Baseball Hat

    • 1). Place the cap in the washing machine with other clothing on warm. If the water is set to hot, the hat may shrink and no longer fit. If the water is set to cold, it will still be saturated with water, but the fabric fibers may not loosen up enough to keep the newly assigned shape. Do not place the hat in the dryer. Baseball hats shrink in the dryer because it typically uses very hot heat to dry clothes. After reshaping your hat, let it air dry to protect any plastic or heat-sensitive components.

    • 2). Carefully bend the hat bill or remove stitches, with embroidery scissors, from the crown or panels into the desired shape. Bending the hat bill while wet will help you remove the curve assigned by the manufacturer so that you can give it your own signature curve. Remove only a few stitches on the inside of the hat that hold the panels together. If you remove them all, you will probably find you cannot put the hat back together.

    • 3). Gently pull the hat apart until the curve suits your needs, then resew the stitches you removed with embroidery thread matching the color of the original stitches. No matter whether you removed the curve from the hat bill or the panels, let the hat air dry. You may find, once you've removed the curve entirely, that the hat looks better without adding a new one. Try shaping the hat by placing it on your head and letting it mold to the shape of your head for a customized fit.

    • 4). Wet the brim of your baseball hat and place a towel over the top. Iron it flat for a perfectly flat brim with no curve whatsoever. You may have to iron it several times in order to keep the brim from curving back but, if the hat is wet enough, the cardboard inside will accept its new shape without any problems.
