Guide to Facebook Fan Pages
- Facebook fan pages allow customers or "fans" of your business or work to receive immediate updates. These pages can be linked to and shared by other users. They could also increase your presence, as Facebook has more than 750 million users who exchange information. The more fans of your page, the better, regardless of whether you own a large or small business or are an individual proprietor.
- Anyone wishing to create a Facebook fan page can first do so by logging into their individual account. Facebook rules state that only official representatives of a business can create a fan page, which is separate from their personal accounts. Navigate to the Facebook Pages section (facebook.com/pages) and click the "+ Create Page" button. If you do not have an individual account, you can create a business account on the Facebook Ads website (facebook.com/advertising). Make sure to select "I do not have a Facebook account" if your fan page is your first page. Enter your email address and date of birth as well.
- Once you have a Facebook account, your fan page will automatically appear. You will now have an opportunity to add pictures, logos and backgrounds related to your business or brand. The first step after registration is to click the "Edit Page" link in the upper right corner. Underneath this option, you see a variety of selections -- from "Basic Information" to "Profile Picture" to "Manage Permissions." Each offers a detailed guide to help you administer the page's look, feel and mission.
- A Facebook fan page is nothing without fans, or in the case of many, without potential customers. So a big key is to find "friends" or "fans" of your regular business by finding ways to promote your Facebook page. One way is word of mouth, another is to advertise your Facebook page on your regular website, and yet another is to let potential fans know about it through other forms of advertising, such as brochures, television advertising or radio commercials.
- Businesses with Facebook fan pages are placing themselves in the feed (and vision) of users of the world's largest social network. This could potentially increase interest in your products, services and brand.
