It's upto you to decide, whether to normalize its discoloration or not. Here are few tips to solve the two types discoloring problems. You can make a significant improvement with our easy guidelines.
General stains, its nature and treatment
Leather furniture requires the most amount of attention. That's what the people believe. Part of their belief may be true, depending on the special attention it requires. So, if you have leather furniture, there may have been days when you spilled some liquid over them. If you didn't pay any special attention right after, chances are, your leather furniture is discolored. Before you look out for the solution, check the manufacturers' guidelines on what to use and what not to. The thing about stains is, the longer you leave it, the more likely it is to soak into the leather pores, and become permanent. The most effective way is to clean the stain right after the spill, i.e. before it seeps in.
Instructions
- Wet the entire piece of leather from seam to seam.
- Make sure that you wipe the leather dry with a sponge. Try to drain out as much water as you can and keep it dry.
- Apply a leather conditioner to get the oil out, as the water evaporates.
- For greasy stains, sprinkle baking powder on it and wait for 30 minutes, and then, vacuum it off.
- For dark stains such as blood, juice and other substances, make a paste of tartar and lemon juice. Apply it on the affected area and leave it for 15 minutes. Then, wipe it off with a wet rag.

Faded leather color and its treatment
When your leather furniture is consistently exposed in the sunlight, or as it ages, it naturally loses its color. The wear and tear factor is also the reason behind leather discoloration. There are dyes you can use to give your leather furniture another fresh look. Giving your leather furniture a touch of paint is a process. Basically, there are dyes and colorant. Aniline dye helps the furniture to restore the color from the inside. However, the business is unfinished. You will still need to bring out the color on the surface. For that, it needs colorant. The colorant is a top coat. It is used to color surfaces deeply.
Aniline dye can restore the faded color, but it cannot guarantee the same surface look as before. To make sure that your surface gets a new look, get your leather furniture the touch of colorant.
Instructions to apply leather colorant
- Get the exact color resembling to that of your leather furniture. Its on you whether to dye or not.
- Make sure that you have the newspaper placed beneath the area you wish to paint.
- Clean the leather couch thoroughly with dry cloth. Remove any dust, vacuum the corners, debris and crumbles. Apply the preparation product in circular motions.
- Allow the leather sofa to dry for up to 15 minutes after cleaning. You do not want the leather preparation product to prevent the couch from accepting the dye color.
- Paint the leather furniture with the leather dye, using a paintbrush.
- Apply the leather dye to the whole couch, creating a light layer, making certain that it gets into cracks and wrinkles of the leather. Create sections in the area to get the touch up in every part.
- Don't apply the dye repetitively in the same area. Make sure you get only a light layer of dye. No overlapping on the previous sections.
- Apply colorant for rich, intense color.
- Leave for 48 hours to dry. However, it would depend on the weather temperature.
With these few guidelines, it is ensured that you get your furniture color enhanced. The basic rule is to look after and take care of your furniture on a timely basis. Spend some time in maintenance and cleaning of your furniture. Make sure that you avoid the sunlight as it can get your furniture to lose its color. Store your leather pieces away from windows, basically, away from sun's rays.
