How to Cover a Porch With a Screen
- 1). Measure the distance between porch pillars or posts with a tape measure. Write down the measurements, noting the location of each.
- 2). Measure and cut 1-by-2-inch lumber using a circular saw to fit against the porch posts. For instance, if you have support posts that are 8 feet high by 4 inches wide, spaced 6 feet apart, you would cut four 8-foot long pieces and four 64-inch long pieces to form the frames that will fit between each support post.
- 3). Fasten the 1-by-2-inch lumber together using a hammer and nails to make two separate but same-sized frames to place the screen between.
- 4). Stretch screen over one screen frame, then pull the screen to take out any sags. Staple the screen to the frame with a staple gun, then lay the other frame on top of it. Fasten the two frames together with a hammer and nails. You now have custom screens to fasten between the porch posts.
- 5). Set the custom screens in between each porch post. Fasten the custom screens to the porch posts using a screw gun and stainless steel screws. Repeat this process for every other gap between support post to screen-in the entire porch. This will hold your screens in place and you can unfasten them easily at any time, if desired.
