A visit to Kidron, Ohio, can seem like a trip back in time. The central Ohio town is part of the world's largest population of Amish, also known as "the plain people" for their peaceful lifestyles that eschew modern ways. But the region as a whole is assuredly part of the modern world.
Kidron is located about an hour south of Cleveland. It has several options for lodging, dining and shopping. Even more are available in the neighboring towns of Fredericksburg, Mt. Eaton and Wooster. - Accommodations in the Kidron area include several bed-and-breakfast inns and an RV campground.
Bed-and-breakfast inns offer the old-fashioned charm of antique furnishings and personal hospitality that usually includes a hearty, home-cooked breakfast each morning. Whether it's the backyard butterfly garden at Troyer Haus, the gourmet meals at Maria's or the carefully tended antiques at Gramma Elma's, each has its own special charms.
Families with young children will likely be more comfortable at Evergreen Park RV Resort. The RV park offers much more than recreational-vehicle spaces: It also has tent sites, primitive cabins and a separate inn where the largest suite includes a whirlpool tub. Amenities include an indoor heated swimming pool, an exercise room and picnic and recreation areas.

evergreenparkrvresort.com - The Kidron area has a wealth of shopping opportunities for fans of antiques, folk art and country artifacts.
Lehman's Hardware is a particular favorite. Founded in 1955 to serve the farm needs of area Amish, Lehman's remains an authentic general store packed with old-fashioned wares still in use by "the plain people," from simple wooden toys to cook stoves and butchering equipment. The Cast Iron Café serves light refreshments and full meals.
Also offering an authentic country experience is Kidron Town & Country Store Bulk Food & Restaurant, which sells bulk quantities of flour, spices and other baking ingredients as well as candies, cereals and snacks. Kidron Town & Country also has a pharmacy, a clothing store and a quilting and sewing section, and shoppers can enjoy a meal at the store's restaurant.
Quilters flock to Hearthside Quilt Shoppe & Needle Nook, which features handmade Amish and Mennonite quilts and wall hangings. Hearthside sells quilting and sewing supplies and also offers weekly classes.
