    • 1). Take flyers to local district offices to approve and distribute to its elementary schools. Include details on special admissions packages and programs you'll provide to groups of students. Offer special guided tours, discussions about the animals and an area for the kids to enjoy a picnic lunch, for example.

    • 2). Give initial visitors and students to come to the petting zoo on a field trip coupons for a percentage off future visits with their family and friends.

    • 3). Attract local visitors who may not know your petting zoo exists and also make yourself known to vacationers coming in from out of town by listing your location on family and children's activity websites, in free local magazines and on sites featuring petting zoos across the country (see Resources).

    • 4). Create a blog or website to showcase the animals in your petting zoo and provide details like the hours of operation, location and contact phone numbers. You can also use the site to provide coupons and list other opportunities like birthday party rentals, zoo tours and educational seminars.

    • 5). Train your employees and animal handlers to be as knowledgeable about the animals and as helpful to the guests as possible. When parents see that their kids are learning lessons about the animals in addition to having fun at the petting zoo, they'll be encouraged to return and recommend your facility to family and friends.
