Are You Still an Article Marketer If You Don"t Write Articles to Sell Anything or Make Money?

Many people get the misconception about online article marketing, and some folks out there see the industry as quite sleazy.
Yes, they have many reasons for thinking this, and yes, no one can deny there are some who've over stepped the bounds of what a normal person would consider ethical marketing behavior.
Still, let's not throw the baby out with the dirty bath water, let's simply drain the tub of the dirty crud, and get some fresh water flowing again.
Not long ago, I was contacted by a very new article marketing participant, just starting out, he wanted to write an eBook on how to become successful in article marketing, funny thing was he hadn't posted more than a hand full of articles, yet, he was already to tell everyone else how to "get-rich" I guess, doing online article marketing.
That to me is unfortunate, as shouldn't someone be successful at something first before giving advice to others on how to become successful doing it? Indeed, I appreciate his enthusiasm and his gumption and go-get-it entrepreneurial spirit, I really do, but give me a break, the industry doesn't need more pretenders hyping that which they don't know.
He contacted me for advice and then wished to pass on that advice, for a fee I suppose to new article marketers.
I found that a bit problematic, but at least he was speaking to veterans to learn what it takes, that's smart, but he's not ready to give advice yet himself.
Yes, I know all the self-help entrepreneur books tell you to go find a mentor and that's great, but it takes time to learn a trade, and it doesn't really matter what it is.
The individual asked me, so how much money do you make off your article marketing, you must be getting rich.
No, actually I do not make money with article marketing.
Not everyone who writes articles is trying to make money.
Many people write articles because they have something to say to the world, a cause to promote, or just knowledge and wisdom to depart, you see? Then he asked me how many articles have you written in "your internet marketing career?" Wow, he just didn't get it, you see, I do not market on the Internet, I write to share information with the world.
Therefore I am not an Internet marketer, and I do not considered it a career for myself, I am a retired franchisor who has franchised my business in 23 states, 450 cities, 110 major markets, and four countries.
I am retired and I do not write to make a living, or sell anything.
However, I have been writing articles since 2005, but I did have a book that I was a co-author with which was in print for right around 10 years.
I have written 25 e-books, and one of those has nearly 1,000,000 downloads; "How to Do a Successful Car Wash Fundraiser" - and yes, I've written, what's a good term? A boatload of articles, but that misses the point.
You see, being prolific in article writing does help anyone who is promoting a cause, or business, but the real trick is to write great, solid, informational pieces that are valuable to the ready.
That's how you get the best targeted traffic.
That's what's important, and yes a good quantity is too, but more importantly on the quantity aspect, is consistency.
If you consistently write "GREAT" articles, you'll do fine, and eventually perhaps you'll even become successful depending on how you treat your customers and convert them into buyers using this soft-sell, informational based online article marketing venue.
Now, I hope you've learned something in my discussion here today.
