    • 1). Remove all toys and accessories from the swimming pool. Disconnect any electrical connections for your safety.

    • 2). Drain as much water as possible from the pool using a garden hose and either a submersible pump or a siphon. Always drain water away from foundations to prevent damage.

    • 3). Disconnect all pool pumps and hoses from the pool structure using screwdrivers and a ratchet set. Drain the pool filter and hoses of water; remove sand or silica if needed.

    • 4). Remove any other hardware from the pool walls, such as the water return and leaf filter baskets. Loosen and remove the cover plates along the top edge of pool, where the wall panels meet. These covers generally pop off, but a few have screws that need to be removed.

    • 5). Using a box knife, cut the pool liner into manageable sections while still attached to the rim of the pool. This makes it easier to dispose of later, as liners can be very large and heavy.

    • 6). Walk around the outside edge of the pool walls and use screwdrivers to remove the screw sets that hold the top rails of the pool. Lift the top rails off and pile them outside of the work area. Remove the remaining ring of liner that was held in place by the rails.

    • 7). Disassemble the posts and wall panels around the perimeter of the pool. The walls will become less stable as more panels are removed, so it is important to have extra hands to help with this final step. Some pool walls are a continuous panel that can be rolled up and secured.
