How to Remove the Spyware Toolbar From Explorer
- 1). Click the "Start" menu located on the bottom of the toolbar and point to the "Settings" tab. Choose the "Control Panel" option from the list. Double click on the "Add or Remove Programs" tool in the folder. Select the toolbar spyware files from the "Currently Installed Programs" list and click the "Uninstall" button. The spyware toolbar will be removed from Internet Explorer. If the toolbar is still not removed, follow the steps below.
- 2). Download an Antivirus Internet Security program. There are many of these types of programs readily available both for pay and for free such as Spydoctor, Windows Defender or STOPzilla. If the computer does not have a working Internet connection due to spyware or other viruses, download the program on a clean computer and transfer it to the infected one with a CD or from a USB flash drive.
- 3). Install the program onto the computer. Run the security program by clicking on the desktop icon included with installation or by navigating to the program via the "Start" menu.
- 4). Use the program's "Scan" option to identify any spyware files infecting the computer. Antivirus programs will locate spyware toolbar software and will also identify any other infections by Trojans, worms or viruses that may be affecting the computer. This process may take up to 20 minutes depending on the security software and the size of the hard drive.
- 5). Select the "Toolbar" files from the list of files that the Antivirus program identifies as spyware and click the "Remove" tool. The spyware toolbar software will be removed from the computer. Repeat this process on all of the identified files to ensure that the offending toolbar cannot be reinstalled.
- 6). Update the Antivirus software often and run the program whenever you access the Internet to prevent any subsequent infections. An up to date Internet security tool provides the best protection from reinfection or from any new threats that may target the computer in the future.
