What Is Codiene Phosphate?
- Codeine phosphate is a painkiller that is used to treat mild to moderate pain. It is also used to treat uncontrollable diarrhea and as a cough suppressant to aid with dry coughs.
- As with all medications, side effects have been reported while using codeine phosphate. These side effects include constipation, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness and headache.
- Prior to starting codeine phosphate, avoid taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) fourteen days before and after administration to prevent adverse effects from occurring.
- Individuals with pre-existing conditions should consult with a physician prior to starting treatment with codeine phosphate. Certain conditions can cause potential complications, and testing and/or medication adjustments may be required.
- Codeine phosphate has the potential to cause extreme drowsiness and impair physical and/or mental capabilities. Individuals taking this medication should avoid alcohol and sedatives.
