How to Build a Stamped Concrete Patio
- 1). Begin this project when you have a freshly poured concrete patio.
- 2). Set the concrete stamps flat on the ground to determine the desired pattern and order of application.
- 3). Sprinkle the surface of the wet concrete patio with the mold-release agent. The mold-release agent will prevent the concrete stamps from sticking to the concrete patio. Refer to the mold-release product label for detailed instructions on the quantity of mold release to use.
- 4). Lay the first concrete stamp on the corner of the wet patio. Press evenly on the stamp to imprint the design into the face of the concrete. Butt the next concrete stamp against the first stamp to form a continuous pattern. Press this concrete stamp into the concrete as you did the first stamp.
- 5). Continue laying and pressing each concrete stamp within the design series until you reach the end.
- 6). Peel the first concrete stamp slowly from the surface of the concrete patio. Place the first stamp at the end of the last stamp, and continue to move each succeeding stamp in the row until you have completed stamping the whole patio.
- 7). Cover the concrete patio with plastic sheeting to keep the concrete moist so it can cure properly. Spray the concrete moist with a water hose about two times per day. Keep the concrete covered for one to five days, depending upon the type of concrete used, weather conditions or size of the patio.
- 8). Spray all the remaining release agent from the surface of the cured concrete patio with a pressure washer. Allow the concrete to dry overnight.
- 9). Spread an even layer of concrete sealer on the patio with a long-handled paintbrush. Allow the sealer to dry for up to 48 hours before you use the stamped patio.
