The Narcissism Epidemic - Part 1
The information contained in this series of posts is the culmination of those years of research, which I first began in an effort to find some answers to the huge questions my coaching clients were presenting to me, about why their family circumstances were often so illogically distressing and traumatic.
Current estimates tell us that 9% of the population are affected - but as some disorders, especially narcissism, are so difficult to identify, and because narcissists, by definition, can't admit to being anything less than 'perfect' and very rarely go to a therapist for help, the real problem could be much, much greater.
Secular pscyhotherapy approaches have traditionally held out very little hope to people with narcissism et al, which is another reason why so many people prefer to bury their head in the sand, rather than confront the problem.
If you can't solve the issue, what's the point of even bringing it up?! Here's the good news: when you start to approach the problem holistically, including the energy dimension and getting God involved, then I believe that there are a number of things you can do to reduce the incidence and severity or personality disorders, and even cure them outright.
So let's learn a little more about what we're actually talking about: According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM): "A personality disorder (PD)is a pattern of deviant or abnormal behaviour that the person doesn't change even though it causes emotional upsets and trouble with other people at work and in personal relationships.
" There are around a dozen PDs (although this number, and the specific variations, are constantly being re-evaluated by mental health professionals).
The group of personality disorders that we'll be focussing on in this series of posts belong to what's called 'Cluster B', and include:
- Narcissism
- Borderline PD
- Anti-social PD and
- Histrionic PD
) 2) Affectivity - (how they respond emotionally) 3) Interpersonal functions - (their relationships) 4) Impulsivity - (they don't think, they react) In the mental health and psychotherapy world, the solutions for people with narcissism, and their loved ones, are very few and far between.
Even on those still-rare occasions when therapists have identified what they are dealing with, getting the problem to change is still next to impossible.
As stated, narcissists refuse to accept that they are at fault, and need to change, making psychotherapy approaches to solving the problem untenable.
But take heart, because in the spiritual and energetic worlds, there ARE solutions for narcissism.
You just have to be willing to tackle the issue holistically, across all three levels of body, mind and soul.
