How to Make a Christian Wreath

    • 1). Place the wreath on a flat surface, and place the candle holders evenly around the wreath. Insert the four candles into the candle holders. Traditionally, three purple and one rose candle are used in an Advent wreath, along with an optional tall, white center candle, symbolizing Christmas, to be lit on Christmas day.

    • 2). Decorate the wreath. Red berries and ribbon symbolize the blood of Christ, while pine cones symbolize the life and resurrection of Jesus. Use wire or floral sticks to attach pine cones by running the wire through the small hole at the top of the ornament, then wrapping the wire around a branch of the wreath. If your pine cone is from your yard, simply lay it in the wreath or use glue to attach it.

    • 3). Light one of the purple candles on the first Sunday of Advent, which is the fourth Sunday before Christmas. When lighting the candle, hold a short service of prayer and add hymns, carols or other prayers as you wish. Then snuff out the candle. On the following or second Sunday of Advent, light two candles, the one from the previous Sunday and a second purple one. Hold another service and snuff out the candles. On the third Sunday of Advent, light the two candles from the previous weeks, in the same order you lit them before, then light the rose-colored candle, hold a service and snuff out the candles.

Observe the fourth Sunday of Advent in the same manner, lighting the candles in the same order and finishing with the last purple candle. If you have a fifth candle in the center, light it on Christmas Day after you light the four candles in the order you lit them before.
