State Disability Benefits in Arizona
- The Division of Developmental Disabilities, or DDD, is the state department responsible for coordinating and administering education, training and benefit programs for the disabled in Arizona. They work with low-income consumers who have exhausted their personal and community resources, matching them with service providers who can meet their needs. DDD also administers the Arizona Long-Term Care System.
- ALTCS is a Medicaid-funded long-term residential care system for the developmentally disabled in Arizona. Residents who have income or assets are expected to pay for services on a means-tested basis; services are provided for those who are indigent.
- ABIL is a state-based initiative designed to coordinate and facilitate the availability of rehabilitation and return to work training programs and related initiatives for the disabled. ABIL works with more than a dozen private and public programs offering services to people with disabilities in Maricopa and Pinal counties.
- The Freedom to Work program is sponsored by the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, Arizona's Medicaid agency, and provides health insurance for disabled individuals who are able to transition to the workforce. Freedom to Work is a means-tested program, so participants must earn no more than pre-specified limits, and are required to pay a premium of up to $35 month.
