    • 1). Enroll in an adult education course. Adult education classes are often short term, from a few weeks to a few months, and may be held in the evening at local community colleges or schools. Students in the Raleigh, North Carolina, area will find options like Wake Technical Community College's "Oracle PL/SQL" class, covering working in an Oracle database, automating tasks, writing SQL commands, performing data manipulation and writing functions and procedures.

    • 2). Purchase an introductory text book, such as "Beginning PL/SQL: From Novice to Professional" by Donald Bales, "Oracle PL/SQL For Dummies" by Michael Rosenblum and Paul Dorsey, "Oracle PL/SQL Best Practices" by Steven Feuerstein or "Oracle PL/SQL by Example" by Benjamin Rosenzweig and Elena Silvestrova Rakhimov. Look for books with illustrated code examples.

    • 3). Review free PL/SQL lessons on websites such as the PL/SQL Tutorial site, Stanford University's page and the Syronex site, which cover an overall introduction to the language, plus integral programming features such as records, cursors, procedures, functions, triggers, variables and constants.

    • 4). Visit Oracle's website, where the PL/SQL creators offer coding samples, a description of new features, techniques on how to write PL/SQL, best practices advice, technical articles and a list of books by PL/SQL experts.
