How to Unthaw a Frozen Bathtub Drain

    • 1). Turn on the faucet to keep the water running. Water that sits in the pipes is susceptible to freezing, and causes flow issues.

    • 2). Plug a blow dryer into a nearby electrical outlet, and set the blow dryer to a high heat setting. Aim the blow dryer at the section of the pipe that's frozen to melt the water.

    • 3). Soak two to three towels in hot water, and wrap the towels around the frozen pipes until the water pressure returns to normal.

    • 4). Plug in a space heater and place the heater near the pipes. Turn on the heater and point it directly at the pipes until the water quickly drains from the tub.

    • 5). Wrap an electric heating pad around the pipes and plug the pad into an electrical outlet. Turn the pad on and leave it on until the draining returns to normal.
