Guests:
Oprah invited Tony Danza, Serena Williams, and Angie Harmon to the show to share their experiences trying out their other dream jobs.
Show Summary:
Tony Danza, Serena Williams, and Angie Harmon all have successful careers in the entertainment and professional sports industries, but few people know that the other interests in their lives involve "the road not taken" and other dream jobs they could have pursued.
In this episode, Oprah welcomed the celebrities to share their experiences as they tried out careers they have always wondered about or enjoyed. Tony Danza became a 10th grade high school English teacher for the A&E show Teach, Serena Williams has been quietly getting her nail technician certification, and Angie Harmon has always been fascinated by forensic investigation.
Special Highlights:
This episode featured the following highlights:
- Tony Danza wanted to go back and try teaching, the subject he studied in college, before the opportunity came up to film his adventure. Through the year he often expressed not being able to handle the challenge, but at the end both the students and the teacher learned a great deal from each other.
- Serena Williams showed Oprah her skills and shared a bit about her love life while giving O a pedicure the night before the show. The powerful woman showed her more sensitive side and insecurities and welcomed Oprah's wise advice.
- Angie Harmon followed a sample course of schedule a homicide detective would take at the National Forensic Academy, learning about fingerprinting, experiments, crime scene study, and visiting the morgue.
What to Take Away from the Show:
While the show followed celebrities through their other dream jobs, considering their current jobs fulfill many dreams as well, the show was about more than just observing the experiences of others. What is your road not taken? If you weren't in the career you are in now, what else would you be doing? Is there something you have always wanted to try but were holding back? This show revealed that it's never too late to do the thing you have always wanted to do or are passionate about. Even if it's taking one class to try out the subject or shadowing someone in the field, find a way to experience your dream too.
