How to Avoid Internet Disconnections Due to the Telephone
- 1). Double-click on your dial-up or DSL Internet service provider icon on your computer desktop. Select "Dialing settings" or "Settings." If you connect directly through Windows, skip to Step 3.
- 2). Locate the "Disable call waiting" option and select the check box next to this option. If prompted for a number to dial before the connection number, enter your local phone service's call waiting disable number, usually "*70." Remember to include the "*" symbol first. Click "Apply" or "Save settings." Go back to the main screen and click "Connect," and the program will disable call waiting before dialing to a local number connection. Browse the Internet as needed and calls will not interrupt your browsing.
- 3). Click "Start," then "Control Panel." Select "Phone and Modem Options" or "Modem." Select "Dialing Options" or "Edit," depending on your version of Windows.
- 4). Click on the check box next to "To disable call waiting dial," and enter your local phone service provider's number to disable calling waiting, usually "*70." Include the "*" symbol first.
- 5). Select "OK" to save the settings and connect to your dial-up Internet connection as usual.
