    • 1). Select your skateboard's deck. Consider the skateboard's width and graphics before making your choice. Select a width of between 7.5 to 7.87 inches if you plan on street skating or doing technical tricks. Pick a width of between 7.87 to 8.25 inches if you will be skating mostly pools and transitional surfaces. The standard deck length is 32 inches, but will vary slightly depending on its width. Choose the graphics of your skateboard deck based on personal preference, as they will not affect its performance. Purchase grip tape if it's not included with your deck.

    • 2). Choose the trucks for your skateboard. Check to make sure that the width of the trucks is not greater than the width of your deck.

    • 3). Choose four wheels of an appropriate size and durometer. Large body frame types should select a size ranging from 56 to 60 mm. Children, teenagers, and people with a small body frame should select wheels between 52 to 55 mm. Select the durometer of your wheels based on your skill level. The standard durometer is 97a, but a durometer of 96a or lower can be selected for novice riders. Lower durometer wheels are softer and do not get caught up on dirt, rocks or bumps as easily.

    • 4). Purchase bearings for your skateboard. Order eight bearings, two for each wheel. Every part of your complete skateboard, including the bearings, can be obtained from the same online store.

    • 5). Select and purchase hardware for your skateboard. Choose hardware that is removed and installed using your preferred tool–either allen wrench or screwdriver.
