Glass Lampwork Bead Jewelry - Secrets of How to Make a Stunning Necklace

I've been studying some of my glass lampwork bead necklaces and it occurred to me how similar artistic concepts relate to any medium.
When I paint with oils, there are many ways to create the illusion of dimension in my painting.
I use the laws of perspective to achieve depth or distance.
I apply paint to the canvas in a thick or thin manner to give the textural feeling of the object I am painting.
I added highlights and shadows to give the objects form.
The dictionary states that dimension is any measurable extent, as length, width and depth.
The amount of space occupied by something.
In artistic terms...
is the necklace occupying its space in a dynamic way? It is possible to analyze a necklace using the same criteria as in painting.
We'll address perspective in this article.
Perspective can be accomplished by having a focal point (a focus) that draws the viewer's attention first.
This can be achieved in many ways: by making a bead a warm color like red which will advance towards the viewer, by locating a bead in the center of the necklace, making one bead larger than the rest of the beads or creating the focal bead with the most texture.
Then by repeating that shape, color or texture around the necklace in lesser degrees of intensity, the viewer's eye will travel around the necklace.
Why? Because when viewing a color, shape or texture, the eye (or brain function) will naturally continue searching for the same color, shape or texture.
Many benefits are accomplished with this technique.
A pleasing continuity and balance will be established within the necklace.
All aspects of the necklace will be examined and the viewer's attention is maintained as the eye travels around the necklace searching for the repetitions.
In competitions, this is vital in assuring a judge's eye will stay long enough for a necklace to get proper attention.
If this is not achieved, the judge's eye will travel to the next necklace searching for a continuation of the patterns or simply just lose interest in the necklace.
Another aspect of our brains is that it becomes bored quickly.
Once you have captured the eye's attention, it must be maintained.
Creating contrasting textures, shapes and colors helps to sustain its interest.
Some of the ways this can be accomplished are by using shiny and matt finishes, with the juxtaposition of opposite colors on the color wheel, using small and large beads and creating busy and quiet areas in the necklace.
The unique artistic personality of an individual is reflected in the choices that are made with these techniques.
Decisions are made about what emotions or feelings the lampwork bead artist wants to express with this particular necklace.
The ultimate goal is to have an emotional relationship with the viewer, portray an aspect that the jewelry artist is passionate about and bond with the audience.
