How to Find Striper Bass
- 1). Know the temperatures that the striper bass like to live in. The fish like temperatures that range from 55 degrees to 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 2). Understand the migration patterns of the striper bass. In the spring stripers go up rivers and into the bays to breed around the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, and then after they breed they go looking for food in estuaries and along beaches. When the water warms up above the striper's liking, it travels north to New England for cooler weather. In the fall, they migrate to warmer water, eventually getting to Virginia and North Carolina. In the fall, bass also are following bait pods to fatten up for the winter.
- 3). Follow the birds to understand the migratory patterns of the striper bass. Birds will tell you the timing of the seasons and when other species such as the bass are beginning their migration.
- 4). Fish in a boat in the summertime because the fish will go into deeper water for cooler temperatures. In the fall, also use boats with fish finders to help find pods of bait fish, because in the fall all the bass care about is eating.
