If you are wondering how to stop a cat from urinating on the carpet then I really feel for you.
Its a terrible smell and a real annoying problem.
Fortunately there is techniques around that can help you get over this problem.
Here are some of my top tips for people asking how to stop a cat from urinating on the carpet.
Keep Its Litter Box Super Clean - If you were the cat you would want to sit in a clean place when you are urinating.
They have the carpet which they know gets cleaned every time by you when it gets urinated on or their litter box which is less than super clean.
Try cleaning it every day by hand and then refreshing it also.
Make a stink - If you make a smell on the area that your cat urinates on then the cat will go elsewhere because they have really sensitive noses, far more sensitive than ours.
Apparently cats hate the smell of apples and white vinegar (I wouldn't know personally, being human).
Use this to your advantage by applying a small dosage where the cat might urinate.
The cat will smell it but humans will not be overpowered by it.
Great! Aluminium Foil - Ok, this is a bit strange.
Cats hate the noise of aluminium foil under their feet.
If the cat urine problem is getting really bad then consider putting aluminium foil around your carpet so that the animal does not dare go near it.
They will associate bad things with going near the carpet.
Train the cat - If you have not got one already, buy a litter tray for your cat.
Every single time for the first week that it uses the litter box, give it a treat straight away.
It will then begin to think to itself "I get treats if I go here, I'll do that again".
Researchers have proven this positive reinforcement technique to work with mice so why not give it a go?
