    • 1). Set a homework/activity schedule. Once you know your school schedule, draft out your classes with anticipated times for homework and class preparation. Then, plug in your schedule of activities and/or employment. You can either write out this schedule on paper or utilize a computer program, such as Microsoft Office or Lantiv. Be specific and incorporate everything from the time you get out of school until the time you go to bed each evening. While it may seem excessive, this is the best way to ensure you are able to accomplish your education goals along with the other activities so prevalent in high school.

    • 2). Purchase new school materials each semester. As you accumulate materials throughout your school years, it can be hard to gauge what you have and what you really need. As you prepare for a new high school year, clean out pens, papers, notebooks and any other supplies. Keep only those items that are new or gently used, and toss everything else. Make a list of any other supplies you might need, and purchase accordingly.

    • 3). Set up a filing system. Use a filing cabinet or clear three-drawer bin to organize your supplies and school work. Label each drawer, and use dividers to separate materials and papers inside of the cabinet. No matter how tedious a filing system may seem, this is a great way to keep various school papers, notices and announcements together. A filing system also ensures that you can keep track of what major assignments are due, graduation paperwork if you are a senior, test scores and major test dates and any other pertinent information.

    • 4). Organize your desk at home. If you work at a desk at home, keep it free of clutter. Clean it off each night after doing your schoolwork. Purchase desktop organizers to group together pens, papers and other homework supplies.

    • 5). Maintain a clean locker at school. Ask your parents or use your own money to purchase locker organizers for your locker at school. Getting your locker organized will not only ensure you don't lose or forget important in-class materials but also will cut down on the amount of time spent searching your locker between classes each day.
