How to Put a Pop Up Stopper on a Pivot Rod
- 1). Insert the stopper into the sink's drain so it sits in the closed position. Make sure to point the opening in the bottom of the stopper toward the opening in the side of the sink's drain pipe.
- 2). Insert the shorter end of the pivot rod into the opening in the side of the drain pipe, pushing the ball on the pivot rod all the way into the pipe. Slide a washer and plastic retaining nut over the other end of the pivot rod, and then screw the retaining nut onto the threads in the opening in the drain pipe.
- 3). Insert the other end of the pivot rod through a spring clip and one of the holes on the end of the clevis strap. Swing the clevis strap so the "C" shaped end points up.
- 4). Slide the lift rod through the hole in the top of the faucet, inserting the end of the lift rod through both holes on the "C" shaped portion of the clevis strap. Use a screwdriver to tighten the screw on the "C" shape portion of the clevis strap.
- 5). Pull up on the lift rod, lowering the sink stopper to the closed position. Fill the sink with water and check for leaks. If the stopper allows water to drain out of the sink, loosen the screw on the clevis strap and allow the parts of the sink's stopper mechanism to readjust themselves, and then tighten the screw.
