How to Make a Spandex Mask

    • 1). Purchase a winter ski mask. Note the areas where the mask is sewn. Cut the mask in half, separating the front from the back. Use the front of the ski mask as a template for your superhero mask.

    • 2). Determine which superhero you want to be. Popular masked characters include Spiderman, Venom Captain America and the Flash.

    • 3). Measure your head, and note the measurement. Add two inches to this measurement, and then divide this sum by two; you now have the final measurement.

    • 4). Cut two matching pieces of spandex so that they match the first measurement of your head in Step 3. The width of this piece should be the final measurement from Step 3.

    • 5). Use a sharp pair of scissors to make the spandex pieces rounded at the top, but flat on the bottom and the sides.

    • 6). Match the pieces up, so that the rounded and flat edges are facing each other. Using a quarter-inch inseam at the top and sides of the pieces, sew the pieces together. Although the bottom of the mask stays open, hem the bottom edge so that you get a professional finish.

    • 7). Trace the eye holes and mouth holes of the mask of the chosen superhero onto the spandex with a fabric marker. Use the scissors to cut the holes into the mask.

    • 8). Use fabric paint to decorate the mask so that it matches your chosen superhero.
