    • 1). Place the stone on a the stone carving sand bag with the side you want to carve the basin into facing up.

    • 2). Adjust the compass to draw a circle with a 6-inch diameter. Position the point of the compass on the center of the side of the stone that is facing up and draw a circle.

    • 3). Turn on the angle grinder that is equipped with a diamond stone cutting blade and cut a 1-inch grid within the circle. Start the cuts in the grid lines shallow at the edges and make them up to 2 inches deep at the center of the circle. Make the cuts in a slow even motions. The grid will create squares of stone that can be chipped off to begin rough shaping the inside of the basin.

    • 4). Hold the point chisel at a 45-degree angle to each square in the grid you cut into the stone in Step 3. Hit the end of the point chisel with a mallet to chip off each square in the grid. This will create a roughed-out basin in the stone.

    • 5). Tap the end of a toothed chisel from the outside edges of the circle down to the center of the roughed-out basin. Refine the basin with the toothed chisel by removing as much of the rough areas as possible.

    • 6). Carve the basin to a finished quality with the flat chisel. Guide the chisel across the surface of the basin from the lip down to the center to remove any slight imperfections as you tap it with a mallet.

    • 7). Sand the inside of the basin with a progression of sandpaper grits starting at 100 and ending at 400 to achieve a perfectly smooth surface. Wipe out the basin with a damp cloth.
