    • 1). If you suspect someone is a current inmate, begin your search with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Their database is updated frequently, and allows searches by offender name, offender number, county of commitment, county of residence, or by next parole date. The website is listed in the resource section below.

    • 2). For criminal records of those incarcerated in Ohio between the years 1829 and 1973, contact the Ohio Historical Society. The Historical Society's Archives and Library Research Department maintains records from the London Prison Farm (1908-1949); the Ohio Penitentiary (1829-1973); the Ohio Reformatory (1896- 1968); and the Ohio Reformatory for Women (1913-1942).

    • 3). To search for criminal records of those incarcerated from 1973 to current day, contact the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction's Central Inmate Records. Their phone number and details are listed on their website.

    • 4). To search for sex offenders in the Ohio area, use the Attorney General's Electronic Sex Offender Registration and Notification (eSORN) database online. The database is linked to all 88 Ohio County Sheriff's offices and all 32 correctional facilities. The database allows you to search by offender; get a list of all recently released offenders; or see a list of current "fugitives at large". The web link is listed below.

    • 5). You can also search criminal records through the various County Criminal Courts or Law Enforcement departments, if you know the county in which a crime was committed. Use Google, Yahoo or other search engines to locate the website or contact information for the county entities.
