Starting with WrestleMania 21 in 2005, the WWE held a match called the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. The winner of this bout would go on to earn a title shot they could cash in whenever they wanted to. The match and concept were so successful that it became a staple of WrestleMania for the next five years. When the company started rebranding their PPV events, a pay per view event dedicated to this match was added to their calendar in 2010.
