    • 1). Clean out the tub using bleach and clean rags. Remove all soap scum and any other build up from the tub.

    • 2). Sand the entire tub using fine grit sandpaper and a palm sander. If there are any cracks or fractures grind the edges of the damage into a smooth gradual taper. If there is a hole and you cant get to the backside of the tub, cover the hole using aluminum tape. Sand the edges of the tape smooth. Make sure the entire surface is thoroughly scuffed.

    • 3). Clean the tub with a rag and acetone. Remove any grease or dust that is on the surface. Any grease or oil left on the surface can cause bubbles in the gel coat.

    • 4). Mix the fiberglass filler with the hardener as directed on the labels. Use a small bucket and a stir stick to thoroughly mix the filler. When the filler is all one color apply it to the cracks or holes. Use a putty knife and smooth the filler so it is level with the surrounding fiberglass. Let dry until the filler is hard and cool to the touch.

    • 5). Sand the filler smooth with fine grit sandpaper and a palm sander. Remove any dust from the surface using acetone.

    • 6). Tape and cover the walls using painters tape and plastic. This will prevent any over spray from getting in unwanted areas.

    • 7). Add the gel coat and hardener to the gel coat gun as directed in the manual. Spray the first of two layers in a heavy mist making sure to apply as consistently as possible. Let the first coat begin to tack up and apply the second coat. Solidly cover the entire surface. Let the gel coat cure for 24 to 48 hours before running the water.
