A big slice of moist dark forest chocolate cake, a few slices of cheesy pizza with big chunks of sausage and bacon, a bowl of double chocolate fudge ice cream, a bag of extra cheesy cheese puffs, a big quarter pound cheeseburger with large fries and a regular soda, A big platter of fried eggs, bacon, and sausage with a large side of hash browns, deep fried chicken and butter soaked rice, the list goes on and on to seeming infinity in its scope and severity of refined sugar coated, high fructose everything, nutrient barren bleached flour, partially hydrogenated, sodium saturated, fiber stripped, calorie condensed, artery plugging saturated fats, and diabetic full sugar sodas.
There is more, much more but I think I made my point.
Just because it taste good doesn't mean its good for you, that is an easy enough statement to say but the reality is all those aforementioned food items taste absolutely delicious and I would be a liar if I said otherwise.
The problem is these foods are tied to our emotions, comfort food or edible entertainment if you will and are not wired into our logical thinking.
We all know that our heart is more powerful than our brains when it comes to feelings and cravings because we give in readily to tasty sweet and salty foods as we do to impulse buying, sexual urges, a chance to skip a work day, really anything that is of a emotional nature and the brain goes along with it because it feels good, releasing endorphins to bribe rational thought.
We also know that when emotions dictate a situation the results are usually not the best and regret will follow sooner or later.
In the case of food, regret can occur at thirty, fifty, one hundred pounds or more when lack of health becomes an issue.
You are in reality a slave to your taste buds, they dictate your mood, level of health and fitness, quality of life, diseases you will acquire in later years such as obesity, diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, colon cancer, etc.
On one hand if you succumb totally to your cravings you will be one of those individuals bedridden, a prisoner of your own excess flesh destined to be buried in a piano case at a young age or on the other hand you could totally dominate your emotions with your mind and become extremely anorexic, both of these scenarios are extreme and highly undesirable, so how do you overcome the cravings of your taste buds and maintain a high level of health and fitness? One way is to schedule a emotion food day once a week, but the key to this working without sabotaging your other good eating days is to limit the amount to one meal of that day and not to an excessive degree that you get sick or overly full, you still must have control.
Secondly read labels and try to choose comfort food with the least amount of bad ingredients.
On your good eating days examples of healthy fare include leaner cuts of meat, fish, chicken, low fat cottage cheese and milk, substitute bacon with turkey bacon, oatmeal, long grain rice, fresh vegetables and fruit, natural peanut butter.
Basically anything you buy read the ingredients, excess salt, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, anything partially hydrogenated, trans fat, excess saturated fat, etc.
are to be kept to a minimum.
These changes cannot be done overnight or you will fail, the shock will be too great and the resentment of giving up everything you love will destroy your resolve.
The emotional ties you have with these comfort and entertainment foods are deeper and stronger than you may think and the weaning process must be undertaken slowly and in measured steps, gradually increasing the quality of the foods you are presently eating by reading labels and picking the healthier of the available choices until you are eventually eating cleaner and cleaner most of the time and believe it or not you will learn to shun the foods you thought you loved because the high fat, chemical, artificial taste will be overwhelming and make you queasy as at that point your body will rightly be reacting as if you are poisoning yourself and the realization of what you gave up will hit you and reinforce your desire to guard your health.
You will be rewarded with a lean, healthy, fit body with many years of quality life ahead of you.
