    • LimeWire Pro is the fully equipped, more functional version of the LimeWire series of peer-to-peer file-sharing applications, the other, free version being LimeWire Basic. LimeWire Pro boasts "turbo charged downloads" and a slew of other features including more parallel downloads and connections to more sources. Speeding up LimeWire Pro is quite a simple task that requires you to check specific configurations on your computer and learn a little bit about the internal workings of the LimeWire software.

    Parallel Downloads

    • Quit or pause parallel downloads. The more downloads that are going at a time, the lower the speed of any specific download. It's often essential to focus on one download at a time, especially if you have an ISP (internet service provider) plan that gives you lower overall download speeds.

    Seeding

    • "Seeding" is a term for the uploading of files through a peer-to-peer network to another person's computer. After you download a file, it is placed in seeding mode and must be paused or removed from the list on the LimeWire client in order to speed up downloading.

    Connect Via Ethernet

    • Many computers, especially laptops, connect to a household network over a wireless connection. This can cause slow downloads; the best way to combat this is by connecting using an Ethernet or CAT5 cable.

    Check Other Computers

    • Other computers on the same network downloading or uploading through a peer-to-peer network can cause the speeds on one computer to lessen. To change this, pause the downloads and uploads on other computers to see a significant increase in your download speeds.

    Internet Speed

    • Check your Internet speed and upgrade if necessary. (Find a link to a free Internet speed test in Resources.) Check with your provider to see if this is an optimal speed for the plan you currently have, and if there are any higher speeds available. Often the speed will not be calibrated efficiently, causing slow downloads. Speaking with a technical support representative is a good way to alleviate this problem.
