How to Make Mineral Bath Salts
- 1). Combine 1/2 cup Epsom salt and ½ cup sea salt in a mixing bowl. Mix in 2 to 4 tbsp. baking soda and 2 to 4 tbsp. borax. Stir to combine, and make sure the ingredients are evenly distributed.
- 2). Combine 1 tbsp. liquid vegetable glycerin with 20 to 30 drops essential oil of choice in a separate bowl. Use an essential oil that is appropriate for your skin type. Lavender or rose essential oil is a good choice for normal to dry skin, peppermint or lemongrass is good for oily skin, and tea tree or sandalwood is good for acne-prone skin. You can also use your favorite relaxing scent.
- 3). Combine the glycerin and oil mixture with the salt mixture. The glycerin will keep your mineral bath salts from clumping together. Add 3 to 5 drops liquid soap color, if desired. Use more or less, until the desired color is achieved, and stir well to combine.
- 4). Transfer the mineral bath salts to a low tub or jar. Label with the contents, and store in a cool, dry place until ready for use. Do not store on the edge of the tub while not in use, or the salts may become sticky and hard to use. Store them in a cabinet or under the sink until you need them.
- 5). To use, add a few teaspoons of the mineral bath salts to running bath water. Use more or less, depending on your tastes. Swish the water around to dissolve before getting in the tub.
