How to Troubleshoot DVDFab Platinum 4 on Windows Vista

    • 1). Make sure the disc that you are trying to copy using DVDFab Platinum 4 doesn't have any scratches or dust on its data side. The data side is the shiny side of the disc without any type of label. If this side of the disc is blocked in any way, your DVD drive won't be able to read the data on the disc and in turn won't be able to pass that information along to DVDFab Platinum 4.

    • 2). Make sure that you're using a computer DVD drive instead of a CD drive. CD drives can only read and write CDs. DVD drives can read and write both types of media. If you put a DVD into a CD drive, both your Windows Vista operating system as well as DVDFab Platinum 4 won't be able to recognize that the disc even exists, much less copy data from it.

    • 3). Verify that you are not attempting to copy a commercially purchased DVD using DVDFab Platinum 4. DVDFab Platinum 4 is designed to circumvent copy protection methods put into place using consumer level programs. DVDFab Platinum 4 will not break the copy protection on a DVD that you've purchased in a store.

    • 4). Update the driver on your computer's DVD drive. Open the Windows Vista Device Manager (click Start>Computer>Properties>Device Manager) and right-click on the listing for your DVD drive. Click "Update Driver Software" to update the driver and then try to copy your disc using DVDFab Platinum 4 again.

    • 5). Update DVDFab Platinum 4. In the main DVDFab Platinum 4 program window, click "Help" and then "Check for Updates." Any problems that you're having may be caused by known defects in the program's code. These defects are often fixed with program updates, so try updating the program before continuing to attempt to copy your DVD.
