    The Basics

    • Print the Bug Off cards from the Do Bugs Need Drugs website at www.dobugsneeddrugs.com. Bug Off, a card game that teaches children how to wash their hands properly, uses a deck of 52 cards. The cards show the six steps in the hand-washing process, the six times when hand washing is needed and a character named "Bugsy." Three to five players can play.

    The Cards

    • The hand-washing cards depict wetting the hands, applying soap, rubbing the hands together for 20 seconds, rinsing and drying the hands and turning off the water. The important washing times are shown as before eating, after using the restroom, playing with animals, blowing the nose, playing with toys and handling garbage.

    How to Play

    • Deal each player five cards, which they should not show to the other players. The dealer places the rest of the deck face down on the table and spreads them out.

Players place any pairs from their hands face up on the table.

The person on the dealer's left goes first. He asks another player if she has a card that he can match to a card he's holding. For example, if he has a Soap card, he asks, "Do you have a Soap?"

If the other player has the card, she must give it to the player who asked for it. If she doesn't, she tells him to "Bug Off!" He then has to pick up a card from the pile that the dealer placed on the table. If he gets a match, he puts the pair face up on the table. The person to his left then takes a turn.

When the players have used all the cards from the pile, they keep playing until one of them runs out of cards. Award one point for each pair that a player placed on the table. The person with the highest number of points is the winner.
