How to Make a Tutu With Elastic
- 1). Measure around the waist. Measure from the waist to the length you wish the tutu to be. Double this number and add 3 inches.
- 2). Cut your elastic to your waist measurement, plus 1 inch. Multiply your waist measurement by 12 to get the width of the tulle you will need. Tulle is available in 4-foot and 6-foot width. You will end up with multiple panels of tulle. The length of your tulle panels should be cut to your length measurement.
- 3). Make a circle with the elastic and overlap the ends by 1/2 inch. Sew the overlapped area together with needle and thread. Reinforce stitches by sewing over the same area three times.
- 4). Stack two pieces of tulle together. Line up the edges and fold in half lengthwise, leaving a loop at the fold.
- 5). Place your open loop created by the fold under your piece of elastic. Pull the remaining tulle over the elastic and through the open loop. Tighten the knot by gently pulling the length of the material.
- 6). Continue doubling your panels and tying them to the elastic until you have encompassed the elastic. Place the tulle knots side by side, touching one another.
- 7). Fluff the layers of tulle by gently separating them.
