How to Remove an Encroachment From a Concrete Driveway
- 1). Rent a dumpster to dispose of the chunks of concrete. Have it placed near the end of the driveway for easy access. In addition, roll a wheelbarrow nearby.
- 2). Stretch and snap a chalk line across the width of the driveway where you are removing the encroachment for a visual reference.
- 3). Put on goggles, steel-toed boots, a dust mask, earplugs and leather work gloves.
- 4). Start near the chalk line in the middle of the encroachment and work your way toward the street. Position a jackhammer near the chalk line and begin to break up the encroachment along the inside of the chalk line.
- 5). Continue to break up the concrete with the jack hammer, going from the center toward the street. This will likely cause several large chunks to break away from the encroachment.
- 6). Start over along the chalk line on one side of the encroachment and work your way toward the street then go to the other side and chip away the concrete in the same direction, toward the street.
- 7). Break up the larger pieces with the jackhammer or a sledgehammer until they are a manageable, carrying size. Throw the small pieces of concrete into the wheelbarrow until full. Then roll the wheelbarrow to the dumpster and dispose of the chunks of concrete.
