How to Dye the Underside of Your Hair
- 1). Purchase a hair dye kit for the color that you intend to dye the underside of your hair. Be sure to choose a hair dye kit and not a highlighting kit as the highlighting kit will not come with as much dye.
- 2). Shampoo and condition your hair to remove any oils or debris, so the hair dye will take full effect. Allow your hair to air-dry or dry it with a blow dryer.
- 3). Put on the rubber gloves provided with the hair dye kit and mix the dye according to manufacturer's instructions. Take note of the recommended time to leave the dye in your hair at this time.
- 4). Flip your head upside down, allowing your hair to dangle towards the floor. This is easiest to do while sitting down. Use the hairbrush to brush the underside of your hair smooth and wrap a towel around your shoulders at this point.
- 5). Apply the hair dye evenly to the underside of your hair. Do not massage it into the hair as you risk getting hair dye on the top layer. Simply smooth the dye over the exposed layer of hair.
- 6). Flip your head back to upright, allowing the hair to naturally fall down across your back, the towel will protect your clothing from the dye.
- 7). Look at the clock and allow the dye to set for the amount of time specified by the manufacturer. Do not leave it for longer, as this can damage your hair.
- 8). Rinse the dye from your hair by flipping your head upside down and washing the underside first. Proceed to rinse your hair as normal, using any special conditioner provided with the hair dye kit.
- 9). Allow the hair to dry and style as normal.
