Copy & Paste With Google Docs Is Not Working
- As is the case within the for-pay Microsoft Office productivity suite, two options for copying and pasting within Google Docs exist: Using the "Copy" and "Paste" buttons via the navigation menu; and using the "Ctrl" + "C" and "Ctrl" + "V" keyboard shortcuts. If you aren't able to copy and/or paste via the navigation menu, attempt to use the shortcut to rule out a problem with the navigation menus.
- If you aren't able to paste content into any Google Docs product, make sure you have correctly copied the original content. To do this, return to your original content, drag your mouse across it, then hold down the "Ctrl" and "C" key. If the content doesn't copy correctly to the computer's clipboard, it won't paste into any application, including Google Docs.
- Google Documents allows you to create many types of documents, including word processing documents, spreadsheets and presentations. One way to determine the nature of an error with the copy and paste function is to see whether it replicates across multiple interfaces. If you are using a spreadsheet, for example, create a new presentation and attempt to paste within the presentation.
- If pasting is faulty only within one interface, contact Google via the "" link to inform them of the error. If it doesn't work within any Google Docs product, make sure you are using a compatible browser and operating system. As of October 2011, Google recommends Windows XP or later, running Google Chrome, Firefox 4 or later and Internet Explorer 8 or later. If you use a Mac, you should run Safari 4 or later.
