    Side Effects - Cardiovascular

    • Many women have reported mild to severe cardiovascular side effects while using Trivora. Drugs.com states that these include increase risk of heart attack, stroke, blood clots, edema and hypertension. These are mainly connected to women taking high doses of this medicine, but even women taking low doses should talk with their physician. Other side effects experienced include an increase in blood pressure, and in some cases, favorable cardio-protective effects.

    Side Effects - Gastrointestinal/Oncologic

    • Ulceration of the throat and gallbladder disease are rare yet possible, states drugs.com. Other common gastrointestinal side effects include nausea (10 percent), increase in appetite, and weight gain. Studies have shown that Trivora has been connected to breast cancer in women before the age of 36, explains drugs.com. In many cases, studies have reported that there is a minor risk of women developing any type of cancer. Women who are over the age of 45 are not at risk of developing breast cancer if they have taken Trivora in the past.

    Side Effects - Endocrine/Genitourinary

    • As stated by drugs.com, Trivora may cause changes in plasma lipid profiles. This can cause an increase in low-level lipoproteins (bad cholesterol) and a decrease in high-level lipoproteins (good cholesterol). Genitourinary side effects include long periods between menstrual cycles or even the absence of a menstrual cycle in women who are able to reproduce. Less-severe side effects include bleeding or spotting, and conception delay, according to drugs.com.

    Side Effects - Nervous System/Psychiatric/Ocular

    • Trivora may cause many nervous system side effects that can be serious. These include depression, fatigue, headache and, in rare cases, involuntary movements (chorea). Severe psychiatric side effects experienced include panic disorder, though this is rare. A less common but serious ocular side effect is the blockage of the vein carrying blood away from the eye (retinal thrombosis). Women have also reported less tolerance for contact lenses.

    Other Side Effects

    • Further negative side effects connected to Trivora use are acne, oily skin, breast tenderness, hair loss, lupus and fatal pulmonary veno oclusive disease, states drugs.com. Yet, drugs.com reports that many contraceptive health benefits have been found in women using this drug. Studies have shown that Trivora can help to prevent endometrial carcinoma, a common gynecologic cancer, and ovarian cancer. It has also helped to prevent the risk of ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancy, menstrual irregularity and pelvic inflammatory disease, according to drugs.com.
