Fill a 1-gallon plastic zip bag with ice cubes, then seal the bag. Lay the bag of ice cubes on the gum that's stuck on your oriental carpet. Leave the ice bag in place for at least 15 minutes, or longer if needed, until the gum is almost as hard as peanut brittle and can be cracked.

    • 2). Scrape the frozen gum substance from your oriental carpet using the dull side of a butter knife. Remove as much as possible. If the gum starts to soften during the process, place the ice bag back on the gum to refreeze and prevent it from becoming sticky.

    • 3). Spray foam carpet cleaner onto the remaining gum residue on your oriental carpet. Let the foam carpet cleaner sit on your oriental rug for 15 minutes to loosen and lift the remaining gum residue.

    • 4). Wet a clean cloth and blot at the site of the gum stain on your oriental carpet. Gently use your cleaning cloth to roll any residue off the carpet fibers. Apply more foam carpet cleaner, if needed, to remove sticky residue.
